A drought Genotype x Environment (GxE) experiment was conducted as part of the Idaho GEM3 project to assess phenotypic plasticity and differential gene expression across two populations (one from Idaho, USA and one from Utah, USA) of diploid Artemisia tridentata subsp. tridentata which experience differing levels of drought stress during the summer months. Western North America has been experiencing persistent drought for over two decades, exacerbated by climate change. This extreme climate shift is a clear danger to native plant communities. Artemisia tridentata is a keystone shrub species in western North America and is threatened by climate change, urbanization, and wildfire. Data and results of this study will be used to inform conservation and restoration efforts of this species across its range.
